(WXYZ) - Officials in the Birmingham School District held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to talk about one of their teachers who was murdered in Franklin earlier that day.
Officials have identified the teacher as Harry Berkowitz of West Maple Elementary School.
Psychologists and social workers will be dispatched to the elementary school to help the children and teachers deal with the immediate loss, according to Birmingham School District Superintendent Daniel Nerad.
Nerad said Berkowitz had been teaching in Birmingham almost 47 years.

The teacher was found dead in a home on Charles Street earlier Tuesday.
