(WXYZ) - An ongoing battle over where to put a new water tower fueled some tense moments at a meeting on Tuesday night.
Residents in Commerce Township are fighting a plan to build a new water tower. Township officials were planning to build the tower behind a fire station along East Commerce Road. The plans say it would stand 150-feet, the upper reservoir would have a diameter of 100 feet.
On Tuesday, residents against the project scored a victory. Commerce Township's Board of Trustees voted to table the project for now as they look at other potential sites.
Township leadership says the bottom line: Commerce needs this new tower. They already pay one of the highest rates for water and sewage.
