(WXYZ) - One hundred fifteen Catholic cardinals gathered in the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City Tuesday.
Once the doors were sealed, the papal conclave to elect the 266th pope began.
Black smoke poured from the Sistine Chapel chimney on around 7 a.m. EST on Day 2 of the papal conclave indicating no pope and been elected.
More voting is ahead and will re-vote.

A two-thirds majority is needed to elect the new pope. If one isn't chosen after 26 ballots are cast, a simple majority of 51% is sufficient.

The conclave was set into motion in early February after Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope in 600 years to step down as leader of the Roman Catholic Church. The 85-year-old cited health reasons as the driving force behind his retirement.
