(WXYZ) - Two school districts planning to merge into one are getting millions of dollars from the state to help make it happen.

We learned details of the grant at a news conference on Monday night.

The Washtenaw Intermediate School District won 6.5 million dollars to combine Ypsilanti Public Schools and Willow Run Community Schools.

The money will be used to create the new district and shape its mission to educate about 5,000 students.

The board voted on Monday night to name the new district "Ypsilanti Community Schools."
