TUCSON, AZ - A Tucson girl is getting attention this week after her teacher apparently gave her a “Catastrophe Award” for having the most excuses for not having homework.

ABC News reports Cassandra Garcia, 8, came home from Desert Springs Academy with a paper award that said, “You're Tops! Catastrophe Award. Awarded to Cassandra Garcia for most excuses for not having homework."

The award was signed Ms. Plowman with the date May 18, 2012.

Cassandra’s mother, Christina Valdez, said she complained to the school, but the principal told her it was a joke, according to the article.

Valdez reportedly said it’s cruel and disturbing and that she was not aware her daughter had any issue with homework.  Read more.
