Tigers centerfielder Austin Jackson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 17 with an abdominal strain.
Jackson intially felt pain in his abdominal area prior to the Tigers game against Minnesota on May 16 and was removed from the game after his third at-bat.
He was scheduled to return to the lineup Tuesday night, but was scratched prior to the opening pitch after he suffered a setback during batting practice.
With Ryan Raburn set to return from the bereavement list on Friday, the Tigers placed Jackson on the DL.
Also, the team optioned pitcher Luke Putkonen to Toledo as Luis Marte will be activated from the DL on Friday.
The Tigers travel to Minnesota for a three-game series that starts Friday night with Drew Smyly facing Anthony Swarzak.
