Berry named Tigers rookie of the year

DETROIT - Quintin Berry's time with the Detroit Tigers started with a fury of fan excitement and continued with support from teammates and the staff.
Monday, the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association capped it with an award.
Berry was named the Tigers rookie of the year by the DSBA.
The 27-year old batted .258 with two home runs, 29 RBI and perhaps most importantly, 21 stolen bases. The longtime minor-leaguer injected a much-needed dose of speed and energy to a Tigers team that was dragging a bit at times throughout the summer.
Despite early success, Berry struggled down the stretch, but Jim Leyland kept him on the team's playoff roster. In 11 games, he batted .192 in 26 at-bats.
He will be presented with the award before a Tigers home game in 2013.
