The Tigers could be welcoming Andy Dirks back to the team as soon as this week.
Out with an Achilles injury since May, the outfielder will begin a rehabilitation stint with the team's Triple-A affiliate in Toledo Sunday night.
After Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters for roughly two months Dirks wasn't coming along as the team had hoped, the 26-year old is nearing the point to get back on the field.
Dirks told reporters he would ease his way back, starting for the Mud Hens Tuesday, but not playing every game in the outfield. He will be the designated hitter as well.
In 37 games with the Tigers this season, Dirks is batting .328 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI.
