(WXYZ) - The TIgers and Yankees began their battle to see who will go to the World Series tonight.
After both teams needed their aces to go the distance in the fifth game of their ALDS, neither Justin Verlander nor C.C. Sabathia will make an appearance until game 3.
For the Tigers that means they started the ALCS with Doug Fister, who was 10-10 on the year with 137 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.45. Fister made one appearance against the Yankees where he posted a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 innings, but he did not post a decision.
The Yankees sent Andy Pettitte to the mound. Pettitte was 5-4 for the year with a 2.87 ERA. He did not face the Tigers during the regular season.
The Tigers are looking to steal at least on the of first two games against the Yankees in the Bronx this weekend, before coming back to Detroit and Comerica Park on Tuesday.
