Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer exited Tuesday night's game against Oakland after two innings, citing right shoulder fatigue.
After underwent an MRI, the team announced he has suffered no structural damage to the shoulder, but he will rest for a number of days before he's re-evaluated.
Scherzer surrendered a run in the first inning, and through two innings he had given up two hits while striking out four. He left the game after throwing 44 pitches.
Losing Scherzer for any amount of time at this point of the season could be crippling for the Tigers, who entered tonight's game three games behind the White Sox in the AL Central standings.
Scherzer has been dominant over the last six weeks, unquestionably the Tigers best starting pitcher. He entered tonight's game with a 16-6 record, riding a six-game winning streak. He hasn't lost since July 30.
In the seventh inning of tonight's game, Quintin Berry was also forced to leave the game with a right shoulder injury after diving for a ball in left field.
Berry was evaluated with x-rays, which came back negative, thereby deeming the injury a shoulder contusion.
