DETROIT - The Tigers have reportedly come to terms with free agent pitcher Anibal Sanchez.
Multiple reports confirm Sanchez and the Tigers have agreed upon a five-year, $80 million deal.
The same reports say Detroit had to outbid the Chicago Cubs, who, as late as last night, seemed to be the front-runners for Sanchez's services.
Already this winter, the Tigers added outfielder Torii Hunter with a two-year, $26 million contract. Friday, Hunter tweeted: "Glad Anibal Sanchez back with the Tigers. Congrats Anibal. Now lets go get that ring."
Sanchez was acquired during the season from Miami and posted a 4-6 record with a 3.74 ERA in 12 starts.
His most impressive performances came during the Tigers postseason run to the World Series. He had a 1.77 ERA in three starts.
Earlier in the offseason, word came out of Sanchez's camp saying the pitcher expected a $90 million contract from potential suitors.
