Just a month shy of his 96th birthday, former Tigers pitcher Virgil (Fire) Trucks passed away in a hospital in Alabama.
Trucks pitched 17 seasons in the majors, played in a World Series, and pitched in two All-Star games. Trucks is best known for his 1952 season, in which he pitched two no-hitters. He is one of only five pictures to throw two no-hitters in the same season.
Trucks will be buried, with military honors, on Thursday at Alabama National Cemetery.
