DETROIT (WXYZ) - There's no love lost between the Red Wings and Predators.
Now, they're taking it to the hallways.
Tuesday, reports out of Joe Louis Arena indicated Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi caught the Predators playing with Detroit's ping pong table. The table has been outside the team's locker room all season long, and apparently some Nashville players decided to put it to good use.
Todd Bertuzzi didn't like that too much.
Bertuzzi refuted reports that he folded up the table on the spot, instead telling one reporter from the Detroit Free Press he alerted security.
Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock was asked about "Ping Pong-gate" after practice Tuesday.
"Is that true or no?" Babcock asked with a smile.
When a team representative told Babcock it wasn't, the coach's tone shifted to sarcastic.
"That's why stuff like that, rumors, did you start that one?" he asked the reporter. "Lots of the rumors going around, honest to God, when I'm bored, I start them, get them going. But good job by you."
Nashville head coach Barry Trotz spoke after Babcock, and by then, the story was the topic of choice.
"If they want a ping pong table in Nashville, I’m more than willing to give them one. We have our toys, all those things, a ping-pong table, a soccer ball. We have our things that we do. There’s nothing really to it. That’s their decision, it’s their toy,'' he said.
