KALAMAZZO, Mich. - Tyler Van Tubbergen threw five touchdown passes and ran for a score on Saturday as Western Michigan rolled to a 52-14 victory over Massachusetts.
It was the first meeting between the schools. Western Michigan raised its record to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play. Massachusetts fell to 0-6 and 0-3.
Van Tubbergen completed 23 of 28 passes for 283 yards, and he spread the wealth with scoring passes to five different receivers. Antoin Scriven had 6 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown and Jaime Wilson had 4 for 88 yards and a score.
Western Michigan sacked Massachusetts quarterback Mike Wegzun four times. Massachusetts' Deion Walker had 9 catches for 81 yards.
