Local players sign letters-of-intent on signing day

DETROIT (WXYZ) - National signing day kicked off today as high school football players from around the nation signed their official letter-of-intent to play football at the next level. A number of local players signed on to play at Division I schools next season.

Warren De La Salle quarterback Shane Morris, considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, officially committed to the University of Michigan today. Morris is a headliner for a Michigan class that includes 27 recruits, three of them from Detroit Cass Tech.

Cass Tech had seven players sign letters-of-intent with Division I schools. David Dawson (OT), Delano Hill (FS), and Jourdan Lewis (CB) signed with the University of Michigan, Dennis Finley (OT) signed with Michigan State, DaQuan Pace (WR-DB) signed with Eastern Michigan, Kenton Gibbs (DT) signed with North Carolina State, and Dejuan Rogers (CB) signed with Toledo.

Cass Tech has won the MHSAA Division I State Championship the past two seasons.

Along with Finley, Michigan State signed linebacker Jon Reschke from Brother Rice. Reschke and Finley are two of Michigan State’s top recruits in a class with 18 commitments.

Detroit Catholic Central running back Wyatt Shallman signed his letter-of-intent with Michigan.
