DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in an overnight accident and will undergo surgery Tuesday according to a press release by the organization.
The accident happened on westbound I-696 near Drake Road in the City of Farmington Hills around 2:25 a.m.
"Police confirm there was no alcohol involved," said a media spokesperson for the team.
The investigation revealed that Burleson became distracted after pizza boxes fell off his front seat. Police say Burleson was reaching for the boxes, overcompensated and lost control of his GMC Yukon SUV and struck the center median.
It is not yet clear how he suffered the injury. Burleson was able to walk to the EMS unit for treatment. He was then taken to a local hospital.
Burleson was determined to be at fault for the accident, according to Michigan State Police. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and the airbags in the vehicle did deploy on impact.
