WXYZ - "Perseverance: The Story of Dr. Billy Taylor" will premiere Friday, November 16th at 7:30 pm at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Taylor was once an All-American running back for the Wolverines football team but struggled with alcohol, drugs, and the law, after finishing up his Michigan career. By the age of 26, Taylor was a convicted felon and spent more than two years behind bars. During his time in jail, Taylor earned his Master's Degree.
After losing his job in 1980, Taylor once again struggled with drugs and alcohol and was eventually living homeless on the streets of Detroit.
"Perseverance," is the story of Dr. Billy Taylor and his road to recovery that eventually lead to his opening the Get Back Up, Inc. recovery facility, in Detroit, where Taylor brings a unique and personal style to help residents recover from substance-abuse issues.
Taylor's facility focuses on transitional dynamics, second starts, motivation, and life coaching.
"Perseverance" will have two showings on Friday evening, with the second starting at 9:55 pm. The film is approximately one hour long and Dr. Taylor will be holding a question and answer session after each film.
