Don Shane was honored by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association as the 2012 Michigan Sportscaster of the Year.

The honor was formally announced today by the NSSA.  It's the first time Don has been selected for the award.

"I was just being me and people liked it," said Shane. "I'm honored."

Don retired in March after 23 years as Sports Director at WXYZ. He and his wife, Mona, moved to Arizona to be closer to their children.

Don will be recognized, along with the other award recipients, at a reception in North Carolina this June.
