DETROIT (WXYZ) - Some of the most avid racing fans, meet the world's best drivers.

Friday afternoon, Will Power, Ryan Briscoe, JR Hildebrand and drivers from around the world stirred up excitement for the return of the Grand Prix to Detroit.

"As soon as we came in, people were super excited," Grand-Am racing series driver Jordan Taylor said.

Eight drivers joined WXYZ Sports Reporter/Anchor Tom Leyden for a roundtable discussion at the Detroit International Auto Show.

The group discussed the state of racing and to generate excitement for the June races at Belle Isle.

"It's Detroit. Here, you're in the shadows of the RenCen, so you can't imagine anything more appropriate," Cadillac driver Andy Pilgrim explained.

The drivers all had great things to say about Detroit, but they couldn't avoid talk about the weather.

It is cold. That's obvious. But the conditions in June will be perfect for a return to the tracks -- and a fan base -- so desperately seeking racing in Detroit.

"It's great for us to have a race here, in Detroit, the Motor City. It's awesome," IndyCar driver Will Power exclaimed.

The races will take place June 1-3 at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. WXYZ will carry the IndyCar event live.
