DETROIT - 500 cars line the floor at Cobo Hall, but on the first day the NAIAS was open to the public, fans lined up to see a classic.
Lions great Barry Sanders was visiting with GMC, signing autographs and interacting with hundreds of admirers.
"Fans came out, getting a chance to relive memories and some of those great times at the Silverdome. That means a lot to me," Sanders said.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame running back signed autographs for two hours Saturday. Naturally, fans had questions for the icon, like what he thought of the current Lions.
In particular, Sanders was asked about the comparison between himself and the team's current record-breaking star, Calvin Johnson.
"He's a lot bigger and faster," he laughed. "I'm glad he's on our team."
Sanders said he predicted "a year or two ago," he would break receiving records.
On the topic of the franchise's health as a whole, Sanders said taking a relapse from a young team is common in the NFL, but Lions fans shouldn't worry.
"We have a lot of crucial pieces that are gonna allow us to win a lot of games going forward. Hopefully we can fill in some things beside and around (Calvin), and we'll be playing this time of year."
