Calvin Johnson named NFC offensive Player of The Month

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson let's his numbers on the field do the talking. 

Johnson, who racked up 32 receptions for 619 yards and three touchdowns in November, has been named as the NFC offensive Player of the Month. 

"Didn't know where I stood as far as that goes, you know, but my thing is just keep on grinding like we have been doing," said Johnson with a smile after practice.

"[He] set an all-time month record ahead of Hall of Famer Lance Alworth," said Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. "I think one of the key things in that most of that month he's dealt with injuries. First few weeks of that, he barely practiced."

Johnson has an NFL-best 1,257 receiving yards and needs 591 more in the final five games to tie Jerry Rice's all-time single season record, set in 1995 with the San Francisco 49ers. 

"I remember growing up watching Jerry Rice play, you know," Ryan Broyles, a Lions wide receiver, said. "He played great for so many years, and for Calvin to be up to break his record -- it's a humbling experience to be on this team and learn from a guy like that."

Megatron joins former sensation Barry Sanders as the lone Detroit Lions to earn honors as NFC offensive Player of the Month.

The Indianapolis Colts secondary now has the task of trying to contain the NFL's most dynamic receiver when they travel to Ford Field on Sunday, Dec. 2 for a 1 p.m. kick off.
