TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - Nate Burleson is 30 years old, but he might as well be a little kid.
The always playful wide receiver easily relates to his youngest fans, and jumps at every opportunity to help them.
This week, he and his Lions teammates served steaks as celebrity waiters at Morton's The Steak House in Troy. The money raised at the event went towards gifts for boys and girls around Christmastime, via Burleson's CATCH Foundation.
"I remember being young," Burleson said.
"It didn't matter if you were Michael Jordan or MC Hammer. If you came to my school, I would lose my mind. I was that kid. So I know how special it is when professional athletes reach out to them."
Burleson wasn't alone in delivering steaks. Calvin Johnson, Maurice Morris, Stefan Logan, Drew Stanton, Maurice Stovall, Rob Sims, Rashied Davis, Titus Young and Nate Hughes ditched their jerseys for aprons. 7 Action Sports Anchor Tom Leyden and his wife spent the evening at Morton's, as well.
While most of the Lions helping out make a living catching balls on Sundays, they had their doubts about their delivery skills as waiters. Burleson cited a lack of experience as the reason for his uneasiness.
"Not too much experience. I can say I'm nervous about the service. I have good hands. I did have fumble (against Chicago). I'll try not to fumble tonight."
There weren't any fumbles. Only smiles on the faces of kids this Christmas, thanks to the efforts of Burleson and his teammates.
