(WXYZ) - The Lions cut ties with cornerback Aaron Berry days before training camp started after he was arrested two times in the offseason.
As camp officially came to an end Monday, Berry, still a free agent, received word from the NFL he'll be suspended for three games.
Berry was arrested for driving under the influence charges June 23 in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pa. Under a month later, he was arrested again for simple assault and allegedly brandishing a firearm.
The Lions expected Berry to compete for the starting cornerback position opposite Chris Houston. If he ultimately lands with another team, he must sit out three games before being activated onto a roster.
His two arrests accounted for the final two of the seven the team accumulated in the offseason.
Mikel Leshoure was suspended two games for his offseason violations. He is eligible to play in the team's final two preseason games.
