Lions cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested early Saturday morning in Harrisburg, PA on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of causing accidental damage to an unattended vehicle or property and two counts of failure to stop and give information to law enforcement and render aid.

The police report released to the media Tuesday afternoon states that officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Market Street in Harrisburg on a report of a hit & run crash.

One witness reported that a man driving a BMW ran into two parked cars on the south side of the street.  One car was pushed onto the curb.

The driver of the striking vehicle then stopped along the curb and walked away.  He was seen entering the Hilton Hotel.

The officers confirmed the crash details and went to the Hilton Hotel where they found Berry staggering out.

He was questioned and taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.  He was taken to the Police Bureau Booking Center and processed for the offense.

He refused to take a breathalyzer test.  He was not injured and was subsequently released pending a Summons.

The Lions issued the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed in the reports involving Aaron Berry and the incident in Pennsylvania this past weekend.

“This is not the standard of behavior we expect from any member of our organization. We have strongly and repeatedly emphasized the need to be accountable on and off the field, which makes this incident with Aaron all the more disappointing. We will have further comments regarding this situation when appropriate.”

Berry also released a statement to Lions insider Tim Twentyman on detroitlions.com :

“I want to offer a sincere apology to the Lions organization, Lions fans, the coaches and all my teammates for my actions this past weekend. This is not the example I want to set for young people and it’s certainly not what my team and coaches expect from me.

"I promise to do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again.

"I understand these are just words and it will be my future actions that ultimately will speak for me.”

Chris Fischer of Harrisburg television station WHP further reported Tuesday that Berry falsfied information during the booking process.

Berry, born June 25, 1988, played high school football at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg and later at the University of Pittsburgh.

Berry's former teammate, LeSean McCoy, hosted a charity softball game this weekend in the Harrisburg/Lancaster, PA area to raise funds for the fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

The event featured a number of NFL stars, including Michael Vick, Jason Avant, DeSean Jackson, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jon Dorenbros, Dion Lewis, Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Steve Breaston, Greg Little and Damien Berry.

It is not believed that Aaron Berry participated in the Saturday’s softball game.
