Lions not overlooking Kansas City

With the home opener against Kansas City approaching, the Lions are focusing on not being over-confident, despite the Chiefs 41-7 loss to the Bills last Sunday.

"Anybody can read too much into one game," said head coach Jim Schwartz. "I can't remember how many years ago it was, but New England lost their opener, I think 35-0 to Buffalo. They came back and won the Super Bowl that year."

Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson, who has missed practice this week with a sore ankle, understands the Lions have to wipe the slate clean as they gear up for the Chiefs.

"Yeah, we won, but you don't want to go throughout the week riding a high," said Johnson. "We've got to put that behind us, just like if you lost, you have to put it behind you and get ready for this next game.

"They got beat pretty well. They're going to come in here ready to play. We know that, so we've got to be ready to play, too."

Johnson's receiving partner, Nate Burleson, agrees.

"There's so many things we need to work on," said Burleson. "And there's so many things we have to accomplish before we can start getting too excited. We have a long way to go. Until we start getting some playoff berths and championships around here, you're not going to see us popping champagne anytime soon."

The home opener is sold out and Lions fans will be in full voice.

"Our fans are crazy," said running back Jahvid Best. "They're going to be packed in there and they're going to be loud. That's going to give us that x-factor."

Calvin Johnson and Louis Delmas did not practice for a second straight day, while Kyle Vanden Bosch returned to the practice field... Nick Fairley began running this week, but there is no timetable for his return...Mikel Leshoure was in the locker room and spoke with reporters today, reiterating his focus on staying positive many times.
