ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Jim Schwartz reiterated it all season long: Matthew Stafford never went anywhere.
But Monday afternoon, the Lions record-setting quarterback was rewarded for his comeback efforts.
The Pro Football Weekly/Professional Football Writers Association named Stafford their comeback player of the year.
In his first full, healthy season, the former University of Georgia passer threw 41 touchdowns with 5,038 yards passing yards. Both set new Lions team records.
Stafford missed a majority of the 2009 and 2010 seasons due to injuries, but led the Lions to a 10-6 record and a Wild Card playoff berth.
The Pro Football Weekly/Professional Football Writers Association bestowed All-NFL honors to wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
Johnson reeled in 16 touchdowns and a league-high 1,681 receiving yards.
