PLYMOUTH, Mich. - There was a welcomed face returning to the ice at Red Wings training camp Tuesday morning.
Pavel Datsyuk arrived from Moscow late Monday night and practiced with his teammates less than 12 hours later.
"We're excited to have him back," Henrik Zetterberg told reporters.
The Red Wings granted Datsyuk permission to stay in Russia for the KHL All-Star Game, but the delay won't cut into his regular season.
He will not play in the team's scrimmage against the Grand Rapids Griffins tonight at 6 p.m. and will also get the day off Wednesday, according to head coach Mike Babcock.
Datsyuk, who is coming off a 67 point season and was recently ranked fifth in TSN's Top 50 Player Rankings, skated on a line with Zetterberg and newly acquired Swiss forward Damien Brunner. The line is expected to be Detroit's first line in the season opener against St. Louis.
