PLYMOUTH, Mich. - There was a welcomed face returning to the ice at Red Wings training camp Tuesday morning.
Pavel Datsyuk arrived from Moscow late Monday night and practiced with his teammates less than 12 hours later.
"We're excited to have him back," Henrik Zetterberg told reporters.
The Red Wings granted Datsyuk permission to stay in Russia for the KHL All-Star Game, but the delay won't cut into his regular season.
He will not play in the team's scrimmage against the Grand Rapids Griffins tonight at 6 p.m. and will also get the day off Wednesday, according to head coach Mike Babcock.
Datsyuk, who is coming off a 67 point season and was recently ranked fifth in TSN's Top 50 Player Rankings, skated on a line with Zetterberg and newly acquired Swiss forward Damien Brunner. The line is expected to be Detroit's first line in the season opener against St. Louis.

As Detroit gets ready for Game 2 of its Western Conference semifinals against Chicago, we have found someone who might just be the No. 1 Red Wings fan in Detroit.
Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger scored in the third period and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 in the opener of their second-round playoff series Wednesday night.
Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk has been named one of three finalists for the Selke Trophy, awarded each year to the NHL's best defensive forward.
The Chicago Blackhawks have waves of talented lines, making them a difficult matchup for any team. Months after Nicklas Lidstrom retired, they pose quite the challenge for the Detroit Red Wings.
