Minnesota Wild land both Parise, Suter

DETROIT - Well, it appears there will be no fireworks in Hockeytown.

The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms with both of the big names on the free agent market. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will both join the Wild.

Both players signed 13-year contracts worth $98 million.

Parise led the New Jersey Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011-12 after scoring 31 goals and 38 assits in 82 games in the regular season. His eight goals and seven assists in 24 playoff games led the Devils.

Suter, an All-Star last season, scored seven goals and 39 assists in 79 games for the Nasville Predators. The 27-year old is a bruising defenseman with power play success.

It became apparent in the past 24 hours the two players wanted to play together. Parise, who hails from Minneapolis, played with Suter on the 2010 silver-medal United States Olympic team.

Suter and Parise were part of the 2003 draft class, with Suter drafted seventh by the Predators and Parise chosen 17th by the Devils.

The Red Wings now must turn their attention elsewhere. Free agents still on the market include offensive defenseman Matt Carle, who scored 4 goals and 34 assists with the Flyers last season.

Shane Doan, a forward from the Phoenix Coyotes, will make a decision no earlier than July 9. Doan, who has spent his entire career with the Coyotoes/Jets franchise, is waiting to see how the team's ownership situation pans out.

Alexander Semin scored 21 goals and 33 assists with the Washington Capitals last year. Thought to be a major reason for the Capitals fall, Semin's time in the nation's capital is over. He played with Pavel Datsyuk on the Russion national team at the World Championships, and flourished.

Interesting trade options still include Columbus' Rick Nash and Anaheim's Bobby Ryan on the forward front. On defense, Calgary's Jay Bouwmeester is an emerging, intriguing name.
