DETROIT (WXYZ) - Rip Hamilton is officially no longer a Piston and it’s really not a surprise.
After nine years with the organization, he was waived by President Joe Dumars Monday.
Clearly, without Rip, the Pistons might not have won the NBA title back in 2004. He led the Pistons in scoring eight of the nine years he was here and helped them make six straight trips to the Eastern Conference finals.
Joe Dumars released the following statement:
“We thank Richard Hamilton for his time here with the Pistons organization. Rip was a champion with us and a big part of our success over the last 9 years. We wish him all the best in the future. ”
Rip will likely be picked up and signed by another team and probably will look for a team that has a chance to win the NBA title.
One team rumored to be interested in him is the Chicago Bulls. It’s just another step toward the Pistons' desire to rebuild the team and go with younger players.
