(WXYZ) - A higher-profile college football bowl game is very close to coming to Ford Field.
The Detroit Lions are in talks with the ACC and the Big Ten to bring a team from each conference to Detroit for a new bowl game, WXYZ has learned.
A deal has not been struck yet, but sources close to the situation say the negotiations have been part of an ongoing venture to bring a bigger game to Detroit.
Those talks have been going on for years, and are aiming to replace the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field.
Detroit has played host to a bowl game since 2002, when the Motor City Bowl moved from the Pontiac Silverdome to Ford Field. The game was renamed the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in 2009.
