FERNDALE, Mich. - Last season, Grosse Pointe South and University of Detroit Jesuit opened the season with a 12-0 Blue Devils win. Both teams kicked up the level of intensity this time around.

Grosse Pointe South held off a relentless U of D team, winning the Meijer High School Game of the Week, 20-14.

After the Blue Devils took an early lead, the Cubs fought back and nearly took the lead. A last second pass from Andre' Gard to the end zone fell incomplete, giving the Blue Devils the win.

Grosse Pointe South finished the 2011 season with a 6-4 record, including a 12-0 win over U-D Jesuit to open the year.  U-D Jesuit finished 2011 with a 4-5 record and was featured once last season in the Meijer High School Football Game of the Week. The Cubs lost to Orchard Lake St. Mary's in their only Game of the Week appearance of 2011.

The Cubs and Blue Devils stuffed the ballot box this week, creating a separation between their game and the Ann Arbor Pioneer / Warren De La Salle game on the last day of voting.

Morris recovers, guides Pilots to victory in Ann Arbor

In other action, De La Salle topped Pioneer, 35-7. Shane Morris threw an interception on his first pass attempt, but settled down to lead the Pilots to the overwhelming victory.  Morris went 14-of-26 for 178 yards andthrew two touchdown passes in front of packed crowd in Ann Arbor.
