Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a shutout win over Illinois.

Ryan matched a career high in tackles with 11 and posted 3 1/2 tackles for losses, including 1 1/2 sacks.

He also forced a fumble to set up a Michigan score in the third quarter.

The Michigan defense allowed just 134 total yards to the Illini, including 29 through the air.

It's the first time Ryan has been honored as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.  The last Wolverines to earn the honor was Ryan Van Bergen last year.
