The National Hockey League announced the cancellation of all scheduled games through December 30 this afternoon.
In a press release similar to those received throughout the lockout, the message was terse and direct:
"The cancellations are necessary due to the absence of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.
A total of 526 regular-season games—42.8 percent of the season—were scheduled for October 11 through December 30."
Last week, it seemed the NHL and the NHL Players Association were close to an accord, but talks stalled on Thursday night and no negotiations have taken place since.
