DETROIT (WXYZ) - Nicklas Lidstrom will be back on the ice with the Red Wings for a 20th season.
The Red Wings announced Monday that the defenseman would return to play.
Lidstrom told the Wings that he would return last week, but the terms of his contract were not finalized until today.
The 41-year-old captain's return means the Red Wings will have four defenseman under contract for the season.
Back in May, Lidstrom told the team he would take some time off in the off-season to decide what he wanted to do with his future.
The organization is glad that he has decided to return especially after Brian Rafalski announced his retirement. The Wings will be searching for a replacement for the right-handed power shooter.
