Charlie Villanueva won't be getting in any extra basketball this summer.
The Pistons forward was cut from the Dominican national team, after head coach John Calipari told Deportes en la Z Villanueva was "not in good form."
"He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively," the Kentucky head coach said.
Villanueva played in only 13 games for the Pistons last season. He sat out with a sprained ankle.
In 2009, he signed a 5-year deal worth $40 million.
The Dominican team has two exhibition games this week, and when Villanueva was absent, questions prompted Calipari's insight.
"Last year, Charlie behaved really well with us and his only problem was his weight," Calipari told Deportes en la Z.
"An NBA player like him deserves respect and for respect, we have taken this decision."
