DETROIT (WXYZ) - He's quietly gone about his business, causing chaos in front of nets for 14 NHL seasons.
Tomas Holmstrom, who broke into the league during the 1996-97 campaign, skated in his 1,000th NHL game Friday night.
Saturday morning, his Red Wings teammates honored the Swede with a gift.
They gave him a snowmobile.
Holmstrom rode the new toy around the ice as his teammates tapped their sticks on the ice in congratulations.
The 39-year old forward was commended during the first period of Detroit's game Friday night for his accomplishment.
He became just the sixth Detroit Red Wings player to ever hit the millenium mark in games played.
Drafted 257th overall by Detroit in the 1994 Entry Draft, Holmstrom has been a part of four Stanley Cup champion teams.
The Red Wings host the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday at Joe Louis Arena.
