(WXYZ) - The Detroit Tigers may be the latest team to shock baseball with a big free agent pick-up.
According to multiple media reports, the team has come to terms with Prince Fielder on a 9-year, $214 million deal. Yahoo Sports is reporting that the deal is done, but contingent on Fielder passing a physical.
Fielder is the son of former Tigers' great Cecil Fielder and a 6-year veteran. He played 2011 for the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .299 with 170 hits and 38 home runs.
The signing with the Tigers is a surprise as the team was not considered in the running. Among the teams that speculation had concentrated on was the Washington Nationals.
7 Action News contacted the Tigers. A team spokesperson says they are not commenting on the reports.
