ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - First-round pick Ndamukong Suh remained unsigned as the Detroit Lions opened up their 2010 training camp Saturday afternoon.
The largest crowd to watch a training camp workout in Allen Park saw the Lions take the field in their helmets, jerseys and shorts. Also absent from today's workout was safety Louis Delmas, who had a personal obligation, but would not have been unable to practice anyway since he's starting training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
Joining Delmas on the PUP list are defensive lineman Jared DeVries, tight end Will Heller, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, safety Ko Simpson and cornerback Jack Williams.
Among those taking the field for their first Lions training camp were first-round pick Jahvid Best, who signed a five-year deal last night. Nate Burleson, Kyle VandenBosch and Corey Williams were also on the field, participating in drills as the Lions prepare for the 2010 season.
Jim Schwartz was pleased with the pace of the workout and the fact his team was not as sloppy as he's seen in past years on the opening day of training camp.
It was expected Suh would sign a deal with the Lions sometime today, particularly after top pick Sam Bradford and #3 selection Gerald McCoy came to terms with the Rams and Buccaneers, respectively.
Lions team president, Tom Lewand, said progress is being made because the two parties are talking, but also pointed out he has not personally spoken with Suh for almost two weeks.
