DETROIT (WXYZ) - We don't know when he'll hit the mound again, but according to Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland - Jose Valverde is still a valuable part of the team and will likely close again this postseason.
Fans have definitely been on edge with Valverde's performance, and he's taken some pretty rough criticism on Facebook and Twitter after some nail-biting baseball.
It's understandable why fans are uneasy after Valverde blew a save in Game 4 of the AL division series against Oakland. Detroit ended up coming up short in that game, 4-3.
Fans were also holding their breath when Valverde gave up a pair of homers in the ninth inning in the ALCS opener. Detroit was able to recover, coming back to win 6-4.
Tigers ace Justin Verlander weighed in on the ordeal, encouraging fans to show their support for Valverde.
