NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting an active or extremely active 2013 Atlantic hurricane season.
The six-month hurricane season begins June 1st and according to NOAA's outlook there is a 70% likelihood of 13 to 20 named storms with winds of 39 mph or higher; 7 to 11 could become hurricanes with winds of 74 mph or higher; including 3 to 6 major hurricanes with winds 11 mph or higher.
This forecast is well above the 60-year seasonal average of 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.
NOAA will issue an updated hurricane outlook for the Atlantic season in early August, just before the historical peak of the season.
