DETROIT (WXYZ) - 7-Eleven is bringing back a store in Detroit for the first time in 11 years, with the grand opening celebration of their new store Saturday afternoon.
The store, located at 2660 E. Jefferson Avenue will have a grand opening celebration from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with music, sampling, discounted food and beverages, coupon giveaways and prizes to customers.
7-Eleven also created a new Vernor's Ginger Ale Slurpee, only available in Michigan stores.
The store is offering small-size Slurpees and Big Bite hot dogs for 50 cents each.
The new Detroit store might be different from the one's people remember from the 1980s and 1990s. Now the stores sell hot pizza, taquitos, chicken tenders, wings and donuts.
It will also include a workstation for Detroit police officers to use while in the neighborhood, and it's a fact communicated on signage on the store's doors.
Detroit native and store owner Robert Taylor says the workstation is great for the store.
“The workstation is a great asset, not only for the store, but also for the neighborhood,” Taylor said, “It makes everyone feel more comfortable.”
Taylor says he is also planning on opening a second store in Detroit's central business district soon.
