DETROIT (WXYZ) - WXYZ Channel 7 is proud to be part of the 2013 Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 18, 2013. And we'd love to see you there!
The event is scheduled to kick-off at 8 a.m. at Comerica Park and includes a 5k run/walk and a one mile walk. It is expected to draw 30,000-40,000 participants.

WXYZ is the only television station in Detroit that brings together a team of staffers who participate in the event.
In its sixth year, the WXYZ team is led by Marietta English. She's a WXYZ account executive and breast cancer survivor. The team has adopted a modified version of WXYZ's Detroit 2020 motto: Unify. Inspire. Act. The Komen walkers' mission is: Unify. Inspire. Walk.
This year's WXYZ Komen Race for the Cure team is called ‘Bosom Buddies.' The group sponsors fundraising events like an annual Cupcakes for a Cure bake station at Channel 7 that raises money for breast cancer research.
7 Action News will broadcast live from the Komen Race for the Cure. During the weeks leading up the race, 7 Action News will feature inspiring stories of cancer survivors and highlight the research being done to find a cure.
The Komen Race for the Cure series is the world's most successful educational and fundraising event for breast cancer. The race is presented in Detroit by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer institute.
Detroit's 2012 race invested more than $1.55 million in metro Detroit breast cancer programs and $317,300 in breast cancer research grants.
