DETROIT (WXYZ) - Three walks are scheduled on two different days with one goal in mind; helping homeless animals in metro Detroit.
We're talking about the Michigan Humane Society's Mega March for Animals.
It's expanding this year from two walks…to three!
"It is already the largest walk for animals in Michigan," said MHS's Nancy Gunnigle. "By expanding the Mega March, the event will be more accessible to area animal lovers who want to help animals in need while enjoying a great day out with their families, including their pets!"
The 2-mile fun walks are scheduled on two different Sundays in October.
So, you can sign up to walk in the Mega March that fits best for your schedule:
Kensington Metropark: Oct. 6, 2013
Stony Creek Metropark: Oct. 6, 2013
Hart Plaza in Detroit: Oct. 13, 2013
The Mega March for Animals raises money to help fund lifesaving programs and essential services through the Michigan Humane Society.
"Last year, enough funds were raised to help the Michigan Humane Society transform the lives of more than 2,300 animals in need, which is just incredible," said Gunnigle.
"Every animal comes to us with different care needs, but on average, it costs the Michigan Humane Society $156 to transform one animal's life from homeless to loved," explained Gunnigle. "So, the more funds we are able to raise, the more animal lives we can transform through the support of the community – that means rescuing, sheltering, providing medical care and ultimately finding animals loving homes."

The WXYZ Mega Marchers will be there. Channel 7 is proud to return as a media partner for this event.
It is a family-friendly event. All are welcome…even your four-legged friends. But you don't have to have an animal with you to walk in the march.
Those who take part can stay after the walk for a Dog Treat Social, courtesy of presenting sponsor Purina.
Registration for each walk starts at 9:00 a.m. on their designated date. The walks begin an hour later at 10:00 a.m.
We invite you to join us or make a donation to the Michigan Humane Society.
Hope to see you there!
