Stores offering free comics on Free Comic Book Day Saturday

(WXYZ) - Free Comic Book Day is taking place on Saturday, April 3, and a ton of stores around metro Detroit are celebrating the event.

On the first Saturday in May, comic book shops all around the national celebrate Free Comic Book Day by giving away free comic books to people.

The event started in 2012, and has grown every year since it began.

Some stores around Detroit are holding special events for Free Comic Book Day.

Bring Your Old Books in Shelby Township is having free comic books and fun for all events, which include food, door prizes, a costume contest, movie screening and an art contest. The store is located at 8074 21 Mile Road.

Detroit Comics in Ferndale is having a day full of fun, snacks and costumes. Also, an appearance from Gene Ha. Detroit Comics is located at 23333 Woodward.

Time Travellers in Berkley is having free comics, cakes and drinks for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are located at 3277 West 12 Mile Road.

Green Brain Comics in Dearborn is having a huge event for Free Comic Book Day. You can choose up to five comics for free, but also have different things you can do to get more free comics. If you bring a canned good to donate, a used cell phone or show up in costume, you can get a free comic. Also, there will be cosplayers, creator singing, sales, door prizes, a celebrity appearance and a canned food drive.
