Cedar Point to 'squash' Mantis; Amusement park mum on any possible replacement

(WXYZ) - Cedar Point has announced that they will be getting rid of the Mantis roller coaster.

The park made the announcement in a YouTube video that was posted at high noon Tuesday. The video is titled "Darkness Falls on #12."

The roller coaster opened in 1996. At the time it set several records for stand up roller coasters.

The YouTube video ends with a graphic that says "Mantis gets squashed October 19."

“It’s time to say goodbye to one of the park’s coasters, and it’s certainly been a different kind of ride for our guests,” said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point, in a news release. “But we’re extremely excited about what the future holds here at the Roller Coaster Capital of the World™.”

Cedar Point says additional plans for 2015 will be announced at a later date.
