(DETROIT-WXYZ) - A documentary that aims to tell the heroic stories of Detroit firefighters premieres this Sunday, April 22nd at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival .
The movie was put together by directors Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez. It tells the story of firefighters assigned to Engine 50 on the city's east side.
Several Detroit firefighters featured in it are on their way to New York City to see the film on the big screen.
Seven Action News caught up with one firefighter making the trip, Battalion Chief Craig Daugherty.
"I hope the documentary sends the message to arsonists, you need to stop lighting Detroit buildings on fire," said Daugherty.
The documentary was inspired by the death of Walter Harris. The veteran firefighter died while battling a blaze in a vacant house in November 2008.
Firefighters discuss how they put out hundreds of arson fires every month.
