A boil water advisory has been issued for the cities of Troy and Rochester Hills following a 7-foot water main break.

South Boulevard in Troy is closed between John R and Dequindre due to the break.

The affected area within Rochester Hills is south of Walton Blvd. from Adams Road to Dequindre Road.

This also encompasses 14 Mile to South Boulevard and north of South Boulevard to Walton.

Many people are experiencing low to no water pressure because of  the break, and are being asked to boil their drinking water.

Troy Police Captain Bob Redmond says the majority of the city is expected to be affected, with the hardest hit area being the northern section.

We're being told the city also uses a second, 54-inch, water line so portions of the city should be okay.

The water main broke around 2:30 a.m. Police are asking everyone to avoid to the area until it is fixed.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time. We'll keep you updated with any new information as it comes into our newsroom.
