Most people who've ever loved a pet know that guilty feeling that comes with leaving their furry friend behind when leaving for vacation.

Whether you leave them at a kennel, at home with a sitter or with family/friends — the look of abandonment on their face can haunt you for your entire trip. But hotel chains around the country seem to be wising up to the needs of their dog-loving customers.

Here are six of the most dog-friendly hotel chains in the United States, in alphabetical order:

Best Western - This popular chain has 1,600 pet-friendly locations. They might not provide as many fancy amenities as some of the others on this list but unlike some of the competition, Best Western allows dogs that weigh as much as 80 pounds.

Four Seasons - Be warned, not all Four Seasons Hotels allow dogs, so be sure to check before you book. But its dog-friendly locations go all out to make your pet feel at home. Four Seasons' dog-friendly locations provide beds, water and food bowls — and even pee pads in the room.

Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants - This chain is not just dog-friendly, it's whatever-you-have friendly.  Klimpton Hotels don't charge extra for a pet-friendly room, and pets are even welcome at a nightly wine reception. If you are traveling without a pet, its employees can lend you a fish during your stay.

La Quinta - Almost all of La Quinta's 830 locations are dog friendly — and what's even better is that they don't charge extra for your pets.

Loews Hotels and Resorts - Loews has a special program for pet lovers. The Loews Loves Pets program not only provides amenities like food bowls, beds and treats — but also has a room service menu for your furry friend.

Red Roof Inn - This budget hotel chain doesn't offer a lot of extras for your pet, but it also doesn't charge extra for them to stay.
