(WXYZ) - The Food and Drug Administration is warning pet owners about jerky treats that may be making dogs sick.
According to its website, the FDA is investigating reports that pets have gotten ill after eating chicken flavored jerky treats, made in China. There are reportedly nearly 1,000 complaints filed by owners or veterinarians.
So far, the complaints have involved three majors brands of the treats. The brands are identified as Waggin' Train, Canyon Creek Ranch and Milo's Kitchen Homestyle treats.
The FDA says it has sent inspectors to review conditions at the plants that produce the treats in China.
The companies deny that their products cause the illnesses. The FDA has not issued a recall on the jerky treats. The FDA indicates that the complaints date back to 2007.
