DETROIT (WXYZ) - Nissan has announced that they are dropping the price of the all electric 2013 Leaf by more that $6,000.
The car, which is built at a US plant, will be the lowest priced five passenger electric vehicle sold it the United States. It will have an MSRP for the base S model of $28,800.
This means that with federal and state tax credits the car could start as low as $18,800, depending on the state you live in.
Nissan says their goal with the Leaf has always been to bring a zero emission vehicle to the mass market. Nissan says there are currently about 50,000 Leafs on the road globally.
The vehicle is being assembled at the Smyma, Tennessee plant. The battery packs for the car are also built at a nearby factory.
